Public Housing Demographics

The analysis examines geographic distribution patterns, development characteristics, and concentration metrics using 2,964 residential building records. Directed from NYC Open Data, we download NYCHA Residential and Borough files to analyze and identify the geographic concentration patterns at the census tract level (2020). Then, examine the building density across Neighborhood Tabulation Areas (NTAs) Development. And then categorize developments by size and analyze distribution patterns. Download the R libraries data.table, tidyverse, janitor, and writexl.

We then find that Brooklyn has the highest number of NYCHA buildings, with 981 in total. In the Bronx, it is the second-highest concentration with 697 in total. Manhattan has the third in building count, with 599. In Queens, they have a Moderate NYCHA presence, 586 in total, while Staten Island has the smallest NYCHA footprint with 101 in total.
